batyr Australia

batyr is one of Australia’s fastest growing youth (14-30 yrs) mental health organisations working primarily in the prevention and early intervention end of the mental health landscape.

batyr is a youth-led, pioneering mental health charity focused on prevention through peer-to-peer education and lived-experience storytelling. We create stigma-free spaces where young people feel empowered to prioritise mental health, access support early, and foster resilience within their communities. Recognised globally for innovative storytelling practices, batyr works in schools, universities, and communities to equip young people and their support networks with the tools to address mental health challenges before they escalate to crisis.

Our mission is to create a world where young people are empowered and able to lead mentally healthy and fulfilling lives. By fostering honest conversations and normalising mental health discussions, we aim to break down barriers that prevent help-seeking.

Unfortunately, 2 in 5 young people are struggling with a mental health condition at any given time. Less than half of young people experiencing a mental health problem will seek professional help. This is particularly alarming, especially given the fact that suicide remains the leading cause of death for young Australians aged 15-24.

Over the past 13 years, batyr has made significant contributions and impact in the youth mental health space, reaching over 435,000 young people through our programs and training over 1,370 more to share their story. batyr is a trusted partner to over 400 Australian High Schools across 5 States, we have delivered over 3,700 educational programs.
