Children's Cancer Institute

Children’s Cancer Institute is the only independent medical research institute in Australia wholly dedicated to curing childhood cancer. Zero Childhood Cancer (ZERO) is a world-leading precision medicine program led by Children’s Cancer Institute and Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick.

Every child is unique, which means every child’s cancer is unique. Through ZERO, each child’s cancer is analysed at a genomic level, so scientists can look for any genetic alterations that could be driving the cancer’s growth, then search for treatments that may be able to target those alterations. This can lead to a whole new way of understanding a child’s cancer, which clinicians can then use to inform diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment options.

The ZERO program involves unprecedented collaboration with research and clinical partners and combines cutting-edge science, with the latest technology, and the brightest minds in research and clinical care to offer every child with cancer the best possible chance of survival.

ZERO is having an extraordinary impact, not only in terms of improving the outlook for Australian children being treated for cancer, but also in the contribution it is making to the global childhood cancer research effort, and it is changing the model of care for children with cancer.

Zero Childhood Cancer would not be possible without the generous support of our funding partners like the Audi Foundation.
